The Six On-Airport Car Parks

Gold Coast Airport runs its own parking, and the layout is simple: the closer to the terminal, the more you pay. All six car parks are inside the airport precinct, signposted from Terminal Drive, open 24 hours and covered by number plate recognition, so a pre-booked car is matched to its plate and the boom gate opens on its own.

Budget Uncovered is the cheapest and furthest, an open-air car park about five to ten minutes’ walk from the terminal. For a week away it is the obvious choice if you do not mind the car sitting in the Queensland sun.

Saver opened in 2025 and sits between Budget and Terminal on both price and distance, roughly four to seven minutes’ walk. It relieved the pressure on Budget Uncovered, which used to fill during school holidays.

Budget Covered is the same walk as Saver but under a roof, which matters more than it sounds in summer: a car that has sat uncovered for a fortnight in January is a car you cannot touch the steering wheel of.

Terminal is the multi-level car park a minute or two from the doors. It doubles as the short-term car park for pick-ups and drop-offs, with the first 10 minutes free and hourly rates after that. For a family with a pram and three suitcases, the extra cost over Budget is usually worth it.

Premium is the closest self-park option, about a minute from the terminal, and priced accordingly at roughly double Terminal for a week. It is a business-travel product.

ParkFast is different: a valet-style service you must pre-book online, available for domestic check-ins between 5am and midday. You drive to the ParkFast check-in in the car rental return zone opposite departures, an attendant photographs the car and takes the keys, and you walk 30 metres to the terminal. On return you collect your keys from a locker before the baggage hall (collect them first; the security doors are one-way) and pick the car up from a covered bay beyond the Premium car park. The lockers are open 24 hours.

What Gold Coast Airport Parking Costs

The airport publishes drive-up rates and offers lower pre-booked rates online, and the gap is real: on the airport’s own booking channel in mid-2026, a week in Budget Uncovered showed at about $143 pre-booked against about $164 drive-up, and Premium at about $400 against $560. Parking is charged in 24-hour blocks with a minimum of one day.

Indicative per-day rates on a week-long pre-booked stay ran from roughly $20 (Budget Uncovered) through $24 (Saver), $27 (Budget Covered) and $31 (Terminal) to $60 (Premium). Three-day stays cost a little more per day because the weekly discount does not apply.

For short-term parking in the Terminal car park: the first 10 minutes are free, the first hour is about $13, two to three hours about $25 and three to four hours about $29, after which daily rates take over. If you are collecting someone whose flight is delayed, the free 10 minutes is not enough; use the pick-up zone or wait in Budget Uncovered and drive across when they message.

All of these figures move with demand. School holidays, the Gold Coast 500 weekend and Christmas push pre-book prices up and sell out the cheaper car parks first. Check the live price on the airport’s booking site, and book as early as you can for holiday periods.

Pre-Booking: How It Works and Why It Is Cheaper

Booking through the airport’s online parking site (parkgca.com.au redirects to it) locks in a rate that is usually below the drive-up price and guarantees a space in your chosen car park, which matters in peak weeks when Budget Uncovered fills.

You enter your dates and registration, pay by Visa, Mastercard or American Express (Diners is not accepted online), and receive a confirmation email with a map to your car park. On arrival, plate recognition opens the gate; if it does not, scan the QR code in your confirmation email at the reader. You can change or cancel a booking up to 12 hours before your scheduled arrival, either through Manage My Booking on the site or from the confirmation email.

One trap: the booking is for a specific car park. If you booked Budget Uncovered and drive into Terminal because it was closer, you will pay Terminal drive-up rates on exit. Follow the signs to the car park you booked.

A second trap: returning late. If your flight home is delayed past your booked exit time, the overstay is charged at the drive-up rate for the extra time. Book a return time with a few hours’ margin; it costs nothing extra if you leave early.

Off-Airport Parking: Alpha Airport Parking at Bilinga

The one independent option near the airport is Alpha Airport Parking, a fenced depot at Bilinga a few minutes north of the terminal. It offers open-air and undercover spaces, has no minimum or maximum stay, and runs a free shuttle to and from the terminal on demand rather than to a timetable. Alpha asks you to arrive at the depot at least 30 minutes before your check-in time, and on return you call for the shuttle once you have your bags.

Alpha publishes its rates through its own booking form rather than a public price list, so compare the quote against the airport’s Budget Uncovered pre-book rate for the same dates before deciding. Off-airport parking generally wins on longer stays and loses on short ones once you add the shuttle time each way, and it is the only way to get undercover parking at the cheaper end of the market. There are no other shuttle-based car parks serving Gold Coast Airport. Anyone offering “airport parking” in Coolangatta or Tugun beyond Alpha is a private arrangement, and the airport’s own car parks are all walk-to-terminal.

The Alternative: Leave the Car in Broadbeach

For a trip of a week or more, the cheapest parking at Gold Coast Airport is none at all. From Broadbeach, take the G:link tram to Broadbeach South, then the 777 bus, which runs direct to the airport terminal. The trip takes 45 to 55 minutes door to door and, because every TransLink trip in South East Queensland is a flat 50 cents, the fare is $1 each way. Tap a go card or a contactless bank card on both legs. The 777 runs every 15 to 30 minutes depending on the time of day; check the TransLink journey planner for the first and last services if you have a dawn or late-night flight.

Tips From Locals

Budget Uncovered fills first in school holidays. Pre-book it a couple of weeks out for July, September and the Christmas period, or accept Saver.

Allow 25 minutes from Broadbeach, more on Friday afternoons. The Gold Coast Highway between Burleigh and Miami adds 10 to 15 minutes at peak. The M1 is the alternative and is usually no faster.

Photograph your bay. The Budget car parks are large and look identical at 11pm.

Use the pick-up zone, not the short-term car park, for a quick collection. The free 10 minutes evaporates while you find a bay and walk in.

Check your accommodation’s parking before you fly. A week in Budget Uncovered costs about the same as a week of hotel parking in central Broadbeach, and leaving the car at home saves both.

International passengers cannot use ParkFast for now, because the key lockers are inside the domestic terminal.
