Walking & Cycling in Broadbeach

The Gold Coast coastal path, foreshore walks, and one of Australia’s best urban bikeways — on your doorstep in Broadbeach.

Walking & Cycling in Broadbeach

Broadbeach is exceptionally well-equipped for walking and cycling. The Gold Coast beachfront is served by a continuous coastal path — flat, sealed, and separated from traffic — that stretches from Coolangatta in the south to the Spit in the north. From Broadbeach you can walk or cycle for hours in either direction without crossing a road.

Combine this with the Gold Coast Oceanway walking path and the dedicated cycling network, and Broadbeach is one of the best urban walking and cycling destinations in Australia.

The Gold Coast Coastal Path from Broadbeach

The Gold Coast beachfront path is a continuous sealed shared path running along the foreshore — separated from vehicles, flat, and offering uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean for its entire length. From Broadbeach you can walk or cycle in either direction without interruption.

Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads (7km south): The best section of the coastal path. The route passes through Mermaid Beach, Miami, and Nobby Beach — quieter local beaches with fewer tourists — before arriving at Burleigh Heads, one of the Gold Coast’s most beautiful points. At Burleigh Heads, the Burleigh Head National Park headland walk is a spectacular add-on (easy 2km loop). Plan 90 minutes each way for a comfortable walk, or 30 minutes cycling.

Broadbeach to Surfers Paradise (4km north): More urban, busier, and with the Surfers Paradise skyline growing as you approach. Less scenic than the southern route but a genuinely good walk or ride. The full Surfers Paradise Esplanade has a dedicated walking/cycling strip.

Cycling in Broadbeach — Bike Hire and Routes

Gold Coast City Bikes (Bcycle): The Gold Coast’s bike share scheme has docking stations in and around Broadbeach. The bikes are e-assist hybrid bikes — easy to ride even for occasional cyclists. Rates are approximately $3.50 for 30 minutes or $12 for a day pass through the Bcycle app. There are stations near the beach and Oracle Boulevard.

Gold Coast Oceanway cycling: The same beachfront path that walkers use is shared with cyclists — stick to a sensible speed where pedestrian density is high, particularly around beach access points in the middle of the day. Early morning is the best time to cycle — low foot traffic, great light.

Bring your own bike: If you’re driving to Broadbeach with bikes, there are bike racks and facilities along the coastal path. Parking is easiest at the northern or southern ends of the precinct rather than on the beach-fronting streets.

Walking and Cycling Tips for Broadbeach

🌅

Walk south to Burleigh for the best scenery

The coastal path south from Broadbeach — through Mermaid Beach to Burleigh Heads — is the most beautiful section of the Gold Coast walkway. Miami and Nobby Beach sections are quiet and local. At Burleigh, add the 2km national park headland loop for volcanic rock formations and sweeping Gold Coast views.

🚲

Hire a Bcycle for the best way to cover ground

Walking from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads (7km each way) is a full morning. A Bcycle e-assist bike covers the same route in 30–40 minutes each way, leaving time for a coffee in Burleigh and a beach swim before cycling back. The day pass at ~$12 makes it economical.

Go early — before 8am

The coastal path at Broadbeach gets busy through beach access points from 9am onwards. Early morning — 6 to 8am — gives you clean pavement, golden light on the water, and the beach largely to yourself. This timing also catches the best of any offshore winds for surf watchers.

🌞

Sun protection — even on a walk

The Gold Coast UV index is extreme (10+) from September through April. Even a 45-minute coastal walk in summer will burn without sunscreen. Apply SPF50 before leaving and wear a hat. The breeze on the coastal path makes you feel cooler than you are — don’t underestimate the UV exposure.
