Broadbeach to Springbrook
55 minutes from Broadbeach: ancient rainforest, the Best of All Lookout, Natural Arch, and some of the Gold Coast hinterland’s most spectacular scenery.

Springbrook National Park is one of the Gold Coast’s best-kept day trip secrets — a World Heritage-listed ancient rainforest plateau at 900m altitude, less than an hour from Broadbeach. The views from the Best of All Lookout stretch from the Gold Coast to Surfers Paradise skyline, Broadbeach, and out to sea.
Unlike Tamborine Mountain, Springbrook is more about the raw natural environment and less about shopping and wine — serious rainforest, dramatic waterfalls, and some of the most biodiverse landscape in Australia. Here’s everything you need.

How to Drive from Broadbeach to Springbrook
From Broadbeach, take the M1 Pacific Motorway south briefly, then exit onto the Nerang–Murwillumbah Road (Nerang–Broadbeach Road connector). Follow signs through Nerang and up into the hinterland via Springbrook Road. The road climbs steeply — the last 20 minutes involve winding mountain road with dramatic views opening up as you ascend.
Springbrook has multiple sections: The main plateau (Springbrook township) is the most accessible and has the Best of All Lookout and Canyon Lookout. Natural Arch (Numinbah Valley section) is a separate 15-minute drive further along — plan for both if you have a full day.
No entry fee: Springbrook National Park has no entry fee. The car parks at each walk are free. Take cash or card for the Springbrook General Store if you want food or coffee — it’s the only food option on the plateau.
What to Do at Springbrook National Park
Best of All Lookout: The signature experience of Springbrook. A short 20-minute return walk from the car park to a cliff-edge lookout with panoramic views stretching from the Gold Coast skyline to the ocean. On a clear day you can see Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, and the coastline running south to the Tweed. Do this first, before any cloud builds.
Canyon Lookout: A 10-minute walk to the edge of the Springbrook plateau with views into the forested canyon below. Spectacular and easy. Walk-in is free, no bookings required.
Natural Arch: 15 minutes further south from Springbrook township, Natural Arch is a collapsed cave system creating a natural rock arch over Cave Creek. The 1km loop walk passes through dense subtropical rainforest and includes glowworm habitat visible in the cave opening after dark. This is the most unique walk in the Gold Coast hinterland.
Purling Brook Falls: A 4km return walk (moderate) to a 109m waterfall — one of Queensland’s most impressive. The falls are best after rain when the volume is up. Allow 2 hours return.
Gondwana Rainforest walks: Springbrook is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. The ancient araucaria trees (hoop pines, bunya pines) visible along the plateau walks are relics of a forest system that existed before Australia separated from Antarctica.
Tips for a Springbrook Day Trip
The Best of All Lookout rewards clear conditions with extraordinary views. Springbrook sits at 900m and frequently develops cloud by late morning — particularly in summer. Arriving by 9am gives you the best chance of clear views before cloud obscures the Gold Coast sightline.
Springbrook receives significant rainfall year-round and the tracks are often muddy. Closed shoes or trail runners are essential — thongs are dangerous on the wet rock surfaces near the falls and lookouts. The Natural Arch loop in particular has slippery sections.
The Springbrook General Store is the only food option at the national park. It has basic supplies, coffee, and snacks but limited meals. For a comfortable day trip, bring a packed lunch, plenty of water (2L per person minimum for summer visits), and snacks. There are picnic tables at the Best of All Lookout car park.
Springbrook in light drizzle is atmospheric and beautiful — the forest comes alive in mist. But heavy rain renders the lookout views useless, makes tracks genuinely dangerous, and can cause flash flooding on the lower tracks near waterfalls. Check the Gold Coast hinterland forecast before you leave Broadbeach.
